Q & A with Commissioner Becky Fast and an update from our local lobbyist Ed Jaskinia

Wednesday, June 5, 2024 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Matt Ross Community Center
8101 Marty St Overland Park, KS 66204

We will first meet with Commissioner Becky Fast.

I am proud and humbled to continue to serve as your 1st District Commissioner. I want to hear what services are important to you and what services we can improve upon in the future to help make Johnson County an even better community. You can count on me to work tirelessly to ensure that Johnson County is a great place to live, work, and retire — today and tomorrow.

The 1st District includes Merriam, Mission, Roeland Park, Westwood, Westwood Hills, Mission Woods, Fairway, Mission Hills, Prairie Village, northern Overland Park, and portions of Leawood.

Becky Fast has a long history of public service and commitment to the county. She served two terms on the Roeland Park City Council. Fast was also elected unanimously to serve as the Roeland Park City Council President. During her service, she was the Council champion for the renovation of the City’s largest park, community center, and aquatic center that suffered from years of neglect and disrepair.

She is a graduate of the Johnson County Citizens Academy and the Northeast Johnson County Chamber leadership training program. She has participated in the Shawnee Mission School District MVP (my volunteer pal) program, volunteering in her neighborhood schools.

Becky has devoted her life to helping others. She is a life-long educator starting out her career as an elementary education teacher and later teaching at the graduate level as an instructor at Washburn University.

Her passion to make her community and state a better place to live led to pursuing master’s degrees in public administration and social work from the University of Kansas.

Her other professional experience includes directing public policy research at the University of Kansas and working closely with the Kansas legislature evaluating the state's aging and disability programs. She also served as the director of constituent services for the late former Congressman Dennis Moore. In that role, she helped cities in northeast Johnson County access federal funds to improve storm water management and the Turkey Creek Streamway conservation and trail corridor.

Becky cares deeply about her community and gives back through many volunteer efforts. She is an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Prairie Village. She has served on committees with the United Way of Greater Kansas City and on the Board of Directors for the Kansas Families for Public Education, Women in Politics Foundation, and the Drug and Alcoholism Council of Johnson County.
