Fire Safety and Cyber Security Month - 3 Fantastic Speakers

with... Multiple Speaker(s)

This month we will focus on safety. How to keep your properties fire safe and the insurance needed in case something happens. We'll also hear from the amazing Safety Lady about property management safety and cyber security.

Wednesday, October 6, 2021 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Matt Ross Community Center
8101 Marty St Overland Park, KS 66204
Our first presenter is Thomas Whittington from Good Faith Insurance. He's going to take the first few minutes to review loss risks that are unique to rental homes and insurance coverages that address these risks. He wil also review the steps to take in the event of a fire loss and coverages that are important to have in your insurance policy. Here's are some common coverages that are needed:
  • Loss of rental income
  • Damage to the home caused by the tenant
  • Personal Injury Protection for landlord and personal LLC (wrongful eviction law suit)
  • Premises Liability (what it covers and how much is enough coverage)
  • Different coverage options for hail damage to roofs (this is an ongoing change in the insurance industry)
  • Coverage for water damage when the water enters the home from outside (outside of a Flood policy (which can be expensive and most of the time not needed) does your policy cover water  damage when the water comes from outside the home? Most Water Backup of Sewer/Drains coverage extends only for water that comes from inside the home.
Next, we will hear from Tracey the Safety Lady. She will be sharing her tips and views on property management safety as well as cyber security.
“Tracey, the Safety Lady” Hawkins is a former real estate agent who has taught thousands of agents across the country to live and work safely for over 26 years. Hawkins is the real estate safety writer for The Close and a safety expert/contributor for REALTOR® Magazine, realtor.org (she wrote the most-read article of the year in 2017), National Association of Residential Property Managers/NARPM, and RIS Media. She is also a safety expert for Inman.

“Tracey, the Safety Lady” was selected to speak at the National Association of REALTORS® national conference in 2021. It focuses on safe practices and technology. She also created the only broker, manager, and owner office safety policy certification workshop with an office safety policy handbook. Tracey has created the property management safety certification program. Her new “Lessons Learned, Crimes Against Agents” program focuses on real life stories and expert solutions.

She has been featured in real estate industry publications, as well as featured on The Today Show, the Washington Post, The Boston Globe, cnn.com, abcnews.com, Essence Magazine, Des Moines Register, the Kansas City Star, ABC, CBS, NBS and FOX news affiliates, and MORE!

Last, we will hear a presentation from Tricia Roberts, with the Overland Park fire department. She will help us make sure we are doing everything possible to keep our properties and residents safe.

Tricia has been a public education specialist for the Overland Park Fire Dept. for the past 18 years. She is going to share the importance of having working smoke alarms and a plan for surviving a fire. She will also help us, as landlords and property managers, understand the best way to protect our assets from a catastrophe. This talk comes in the midst of National Fire Safety Week.
